Let me first say that I went into this expecting the worst and I was definitely pleasantly surprised. I'm 36 and can't take birth control pills (I've been on the pill for 10 years) anymore because I'm over 35 and have blood pressure issues which has pretty much regulated itself since I got my implant. I am not interested in ever being pregnant, I also have major issues with heavy flow and very painful periods. An IUD really wasn't an option for me because I'm very sensitive to my body and I just had this overwhelming feeling that I would not mesh well with that version of BC. I had a very light "period" about 5 days after insertion that lasted about 4 days and the cramps and discomfort were very minimal. So far I've noticed some minor random cramps, a little headache that isn't constant and I'm a little more tired than usual (I was warned about these exact symptoms). I haven't had a period since and I'm hoping it stays that way or they are lighter than usual. I've read that women who do well on the implant (nexplanon or an alternative) do not do well with an IUD and vice versa. I am very happy and will try to update in a couple more months if anyone is interested.
