"Immune" to edibles? Give SEDDS a try.

Post Body

I've long thought I'm "immune" to edible products. I've tried:

  • taking edibles on a full stomach
  • taking edibles on an empty stomach after fasting overnight
  • taking edibles with or without an antacid
  • lozenges, tinctures, brownies, cookies, muffins, chocolate bars
  • making my own edibles from scratch (including the decarb step)

The few times something happened, it was fairly minimal (felt a bit sleepy), and would dissipate completely within a couple of hours.

Fast forward to right now: I took a single 9.5mg 20:1 Blue "extra strength" capsule an hour ago. I'm enjoying very mild pain relief, a sense of calm, and things are a bit funnier.

What's different? SEDDS. From their product page:

The self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) interacts with the stomach to break it down quicker, so the concentrated cannabis oil can be absorbed into the body faster and more efficiently. Patients experience the effects sooner and longer, with consistent dosing

I thought it was a marketing gimmick. It is not. This type of formulation is designed to be more bioavailable (your body can utilize more of the THC in the capsule, instead of wasting it or breaking it down prior to systemic absorption), faster acting, and with more consistent/predictable effects. SEDDS is particularly useful for lipophilic (fat-loving) drugs, including THC.

More interesting stuff to read:

I hope this can help someone else find a product that works for them. I'd prefer edibles over anything vaporized, so this was a great find for me! :)
