Easiest video commentary software on older Mac?

Hi everyone - I'm new here and excited to find this community.

I want to take an old Hollywood film.and.cut together a 25 min or so commentary on it. So it would be an audio of my voice and then I'd cut and paste different video clips to illustrate.my points. The end would be on YouTube. You see this kind of commentary video on YouTube a lot, on star wars films for example.

I have an older 2011 MacBook air. I've been using Screenflow software. In the past I've made just straight camera videos of myself that I edited. But I haven't dropped in clips from films.

What is you advice? I think I might need a new computer and external.hard drive for storage but I want to avoid this or a t least avoid getting too powerful a computer that I don't need for such basic projects. Is it possible to use.screenflow for this or is some.other software better?

For example I don't need high resolution for the editing workflow process just the final product. Maybe I am doing something wrong and there is a way to edit clips in a smaller size or compressed format as placeholders and then render them at the proper format for YouTube? Total noob here.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
