Can someone explain to me the YouTube shorts feed?

I hope technical question is the right label for that. So yeah just the title. I like to use YouTube shorts to maybe get people interested in my Longform videos. But I seem to not understand it.

sometimes a video "explodes" in views and sometimes it has maybe one or two views but from YouTube search and is not shown in the shorts feed (as it shows me in the studio)

I tried around with hashtags (in Titel/in description/non) it seems to make no difference just like the shorts feed is like a sort of lottery.
