I had a very old channel where I had posted 3 clips 4 years ago from an anime with no intention of ever becoming a YouTuber.
It blew up and even to this day, I get 100s of views on those clips every day. No copyright strikes or anything.
However, these past three months I have started making video-essays, which have nothing to do with the world of anime or entertainment media. The genre is mostly psychology and philosophy.
Now these video-essays are by no means good enough to garner a lot of views yet. However, I can see that each video I post is much better than the last one since I am learning along the way BUT that is not getting reflected in the video stats themselves which have remained mostly similar throughout. My retention has improved, but impressions and CTR are mostly the same.
what I am afraid of is that because Youtube is still mostly sending audience interested in Anime clips to my channel, they are not even going to promote my video in browse features of audience who are more suitable for this new genre.
The reason I didn't start off with a new channel from the get go is that I was greedy about retaining those views and watchhours from those previous anime clips.
Am I thinking too much about this too early? Should I wait and see for at least a few more months? Or should I actually consider creating a new channel?
YouTube wouldn’t (shouldn’t) let you get monetized off the anime clips anyway. I’d start a new channel branded towards your essays
