Hello guys
I live in Switzerland and I want to make a YouTube channel where I would have to use copyrighted material to support my commentary. The problem is that in Germany and Switzerland, the law only allows the use of copyrighted Material to support commentary, education, teaching and a couple of other things, when it’s not used with the intent of financial gain. Now, a lot of big YouTubers in Germany already do this and they don’t get copyright strikes, even though, of course, they make money from it. Are there further exceptions that I’m not aware of? Does anyone of you have some knowledge in this matter?
I would be using screenshots of images and articles in my YouTube videos to support my Commentary, when discussing certain social issues. The screenshots of the articles would include, for example, descriptions of a situation that I am talking about or definitions of a word I am talking about. Which, I think, falls under the fair use doctrine in the US. Also, these sources would most often come from US American creators, so it would kind of also be an overlapping jurisdiction type of situation.
Thanks in advance.
