Post Body

That's a quote that I hold dear and near to my heart. I read it on reddit somewhere at some point and I think it's something that a lot of people on here needs to read.

The views, the subs and the monetization is exciting I get it but if you aren't enjoying making every video you make better than the last one you made then you aren't going to last.

Strive for consistency, consistently uploading better and better videos. Don't get shortsighted on the statistics, if you aim for consistency the numbers will add up in the end.

How can you upload one single video or even just 4 over the course of 3 months at a completely sporadic timing and say that you are being consistent? Repetition brings improvement. Are you coming home from work/school every day and sitting down and scripting, editing, and filming? If not then how can you get better? A writer improves by writing. A guitarist by playing guitar. Content creator by creating content. Don't expect to be the best thing ever and focus on the statistics, all it will do is discourage you.

Even if you stare at a blank word doc for an hour, writing and rewriting the same part of the script for the 8th time, you are improving, your brain is learning. Trust the process and instead of whinging on reddit continue to take action towards that goal of reaching a million subs or whatever it is in the absence of immediate results. Youtube is not for those who seek instant gratification.

You might not realise the progress you are making but if you notice the people who have been successful on youtube they will tell you the same thing. Northernlion uploaded a video literally every day of the week for years before he got big, for some time several at a time. Linus Tech Tips, started with a crappy camcorder videos but continued to get better. They got better because they DID the things they wanted to get better at. If you want to get better at whinging on reddit then it's your choice though. Eventually you will see the results of your hard work but once you stop, you will stop making any progress.

Consistency should be your primary focus. Stop persueing vanity metrics and focus on the important ingredient of "Doing it".

I really should have put in there about adjusting your expectations because that's something that you can actually control.

I don't think that's necessarily opposite of I'm saying, unless you are saying you are opposite of what I'm describing in people I see. Then you are spot on, I'd say you are way more likely to succeed because you enjoy the process than you are focused on the vanity metrics.

Who said anything about enjoying it? You don’t have to enjoy the steps to get better at something. It’s called discipline.

Yeah and you should be seeing just making videos consistently as a success.

Also depression isn’t a choice. Making videos is.
