Help with escaping as spy via stock watch

So I come up to a player, who's all alone, and then try to stab him. For some reason, I miss the stab and end up undisguised. If I try to escape via the stock watch he keeps a constant stream of damage on me and so my cloak is always flickering and I'm always visible. What do I do to escape if I fail to stab someone or pull off a stab while there are enemies around?
