Is being an EMT the right choice to make for someone like me living in metro Atlanta? I’m 19, in college with no real plan yet. I want to continue college classes, develop myself, rack up some money and gain experience in many different aspects of life. I’ve always been interested in the medical field but it’s a huge commitment which I’m not sure I’m ready for/willing to make. Fortunate enough to be living in my parents house with hope covering college and no real expenses outside of that. EMT seems like a great way to get experience and possibly help me decide if the medical field is for me. Once I have decided, I would most likely stick with working as an EMT until i graduate college and find my main job (3 years from now). The course is expensive though and I have no idea what to expect. Considering I have friends making nearly 20 an hour pushing carts, paying for a certificate just to make less than someone working at a grocery store seems really unreasonable. And I know being an EMT is not about the money but I’m just trying to get an idea.
My questions are: Is being an EMT worth it for you? Is the experience worth the trouble and pay? Will it be easy to find a decent paying job here in Atlanta? Is the schedule flexible? Does this seem like the right path for someone like me?
Thanks in advance
