So a full disclaimer because this might be related more to this than a skating thing: I'm autistic, and the thing about many autistic folks, including myself, is that we tend to be overwhelmed when processing information and new environments and details and take in every "small" thing. Many of us, including myself, are also very routine and have repetitive behaviors, and this also applies to my skating routine.
Anyways, I went to a new skatepark today despite really only skating in the same one the entire time I've been skating, and it felt like that as soon as I stepped on my board, the majority of my built up skating level just emptied from my brain. For example, just getting used to the different feel of the concrete and friction level compared to what I'm used to threw me off, and as I was setting up for say, an ollie or any mini ramp tricks, they regressed back to when I first started them and I was so overwhelmed trying to adjust to the slightly different feel of the concrete, navigating the dimensions different spaces and lines, and getting the right amount of push and balance compared to what I'm used to, it was like I just forgot all the progress I had made. It was really crushing mentally because it felt like all my progress was all in vain because it all applied to the same familiar ramps, curbs, and areas of one park. Has anyone else had an experience like this, and is it normal to have to acclimate to a new skating environment this much itself for others instead of just suddenly skating anywhere with the same ease and skill level I'm used to?
