Thumbs feeling sore?

This will sound weird but! I noticed that when I’m riding the meaty part of my thumbs (on the palm ) start to get sore pretty quick. I don’t feel like I’m hiding the handle bars too tight.
Could it possibly be my gloves are to small? They fit my fingers really well but they are a little tight around my palms.
