Is it safe to come to New Mexico as a tourist for memorial day weekend, if i only want to do nature/hiking activities?

Of course i understand that the recommendation is to voluntarily stay indoors as much as possible, however its also recommended to get as much exercise, and what better than doing it via hiking. I am from Texas, but was wondering if i cpuld visit new mexico to hike the beautiful landscape, which would involve minimal exposure to people but maximum scenic pleasure. This is for the memorial day weekend!
