Good Afternoon you lovely people of /r/NewJerseyNSFW. The purpose of this post is to remind everyone that as you participate in this sub and others like it, there's always a chance you'll be contacted by someone who means to scam you for money or nudes. Here are some tips and tricks to spot scammers so that you can avoid falling victim to these scams.

  1. If you decide to share a picture of yourself with an internet stranger, assume that person is fake until you verify them to be real. That means the picture you share should never contain both your face and body. You can do this by editing your photo from your smart phone. Use the cropping tool to cut out your face or body from the pic. Or you can use the marker tool to blur out your face or body as well. Be sure to also cover up tattoos, IDs, or anything else that can be used to identify you. Lastly, use the text tool to put your username as a watermark on your picture, preferably on or near your body. Using a watermark will stop a scammer from trying to steal your pictures to use as their own.
  2. If you and your partner have some chemistry, don't let the conversation go on for days or weeks. Insist you and your partner verify yourselves to be real by using an app that allows for voice/video chat. This should not be an issue, ever. If someone claims to have the time to meet up with you for sexy time, then a 2 minute voice/video call to prove you're both real should be no issue!
  3. Some scammers are patient and play what's called the long scam. That means they're willing to talk, flirt, and send fake pictures to you over a long period of time. Their goal is to build trust with you. And in building trust, they hope you give them enough personal information so that they can use it against you as leverage later. To avoid this scam, steps 1 and 2 I just mentioned should be done within the first 24 to 48 hours of the initial conversation. If the scammer begins to give you multiple excuses as to why they can't verify, don't kid yourself, they're not who you think they are. Block and move on. No matter how attractive the pictures they send you are, if you can't even get a 2 minute voice/video call to confirm this person is real, then assume you're talking to a scammer. Also, even after you verify a person, take time to get to know them and meet up for coffee before you start to share personal information. Once you share it, you can't take it back.

As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the mod team. We'll continue to work to keep this sub a place for people to find meaningful connections or hookups!
