So, don’t get me wrong, I literally loved their development during this season. The time they spend by themselves made them grow so much. In fact, as much as needed to become young adults able to clear up their problems and misunderstandings.
However, one could argue that their reunion has been a little too stretched out. And, indeed, sometimes I really felt like it was too much and especially concerning the VM.
How many times, either Otis or Maeve, just wasn’t able to bring the topic on the table. Too shy ? Too pride or too angry ? I understand that all of that, and more, was strong enough to justify their behavior.
Yet, I can’t help myself but wondering, whether their development would have been the same/better if Otis told Maeve about the VM in the first episodes or not.
If he did, Maeve would have confronted Isaac probably during episode 2 too. She would have been really pissed off, enough for her not to come back at him ? Yet, she still would feel angry at Otis, for the exact same reasons she was in the actual season. Leading us to their first kiss probably during the trip too.
The only thing that would, actually, change is Isaac forced redemption arc and the last, pointless, love triangle. In fact, only this part of the season sticks in my craw a bit. Isaac taking his heart off the table, behaving like he was a saint, who did nothing wrong was nerves wracking to me. Even Maeve acting like she completely forgot about what he did was odd…
And the fight scene at Anna’s house wouldn’t have existed, not leading to Otis behaving out of his character and prior development. Just Otis helping Maeve to go there, helping to find Elsie and shifting Maeve thoughts about his "I don’t care" behavior to pave the way for the dialogue and kiss in episode 7.
I would have loved to, actually, see Otis stepping up, taking away his pride and shame and confronting her about the VM. This, would be character development too.
Nobody, in real life manages to do what Otis did. Keeping his mouth shut after pouring his heart like that… All of that really feels like it was done to make Isaac more appreciable. Yet, does it benefits the main plot, I don’t know.
What are your thoughts ?
