In my opinion, the flaw of season 3 was the number of story lines and characters which just went through the roof.
However, the end of this season let me believe that a good amount of characters could not appear on S4 because of their respective story lines ending.
I am talking about : Isaac and Joe, Cynthia and Jeffrey, Erin and most importantly Goat.
Others like Peter Groff, Anna or Ruby’s father could still be there but with really short screen time.
Some could also be back, like Remy (whose actors said he will be there if a S4 is announced) or Eric’s father.
So we will most like have less characters to focus on and most importantly less key characters.
Now I want to tackle one of the major cliffhanger of S3 ending which is the future of Moordale. I have the feeling that this cliffhanger could serve a simple purpose which is bringing Moordale students together. In fact, the writers already began to do this at the end of S3 with the students fighting Hope. How about them standing together to bring the school back. In fact, in S3 E8 Jackson was reading an article about Moordale and how it inspired other schools to protest in favor of a revision of SRE classes.
I believe that this story line could also be the best way to bring different characters together and thus to regroup them in one big story line. This could be the key for the writers to not have a new story line for each remaining characters, leading to to much stuff going on in the season. I’m especially talking about characters like Jackson, Viv, Cal, The Untouchables or Lily.
Indeed, we are seemingly running out of story lines for most of them and this could solve it all. Viv needs a clear school environment knowing her ambitions, Jackson and Cal are in a kind of identity crisis and are trying to discover more about themselves and their ambitions. And Lily legitimately started all of Moordale sex school reputation leading to the school closing.
Regarding The Untouchables and especially Ruby, it could be the perfect redemption arc and character growth for them. Their whole social status exist because of the school. Without the school they are nothing. Also, at the end of S3 we saw them and especially Ruby fighting for the school. Ruby thanks to her relationship with Otis is starting to get rid of her shell and I would love to see her, not in any kind of new and boring relationship, but standing for her beliefs. And she actually began to do that by literally fighting against Hope. They have a huge influence on the students and could persuade them to fight to bring the school back.
This could perfectly fill in their lack of story lines during the last season and at the same time could let more room for the main story lines which are Otis and Maeve potential relationship and Otis family problems.
We could also see the clinic return, which is really likely to happen. As well as given story lines like Adam and his father relationship, Aimee’s finally beating her trauma, Maeve’s future and other small story lines remaining.
I really believe that Moordale issues could be the key to get rid of the overwhelming number of story lines we had this season.
