Let's drop the Netflix pretense right off the bat...
I don't know what I would put as my number one favorite comedic series? What We Do In The Shadows? Always Sunny? Community? Parks & Rec? New Girl? Maybe even Resident Alien?
I'm familiar with the classics like Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Roseanne/The Conners (honestly better without Roseanne). And the new classics like Schitt's Creek, Barry, Only Murders In The Building, Party Down, The League, Broad City, Workaholics, and Nathan For You.
I have no interest in Modern Family, just like my disinterest for Sex & The City. How I Met Your Mother seems to fall under this same category and I almost feel bad about it for some reason. I don't feel bad about not wanting to watch The Big Bang Theory tho. Or even The Goldbergs. Unfortunately Kim's Convenience just was not for me.
I've been exposed to all the classic Adult Swim through Metalocalypse, but I'm picky about adult cartoons because half of them are crap (Hoops), and I only appreciate Roger Smith as Seth MacFarlane's one good creation. South Park, Bob's Burgers (not The Great North), Harley Quinn was a real hidden gem (serious reservations about mentioning Rick & Morty, but also no thank you to Solar Opposites), and now Inside Job is surprisingly good after so many Paradise P.D. like "animations". And no, I do not enjoy Big Mouth. *The exclusion of Bojack is cuz that shit is serious and the comedic relief is a necessity.
Should I go back and finish Venture Bros.? Or Archer? Should I check out Close Enough if I halfway liked Regular Show? Or Final Space as a Greatest Warriors fan?
I have an appreciation for a lot of the British/Kiwi shows like Spaced, Flight of The Conchords,Toast of London ("Yes, I can hear you, Clem Fandango!"), The IT Crowd, Snuff Box, The Mighty Boosh, Garth Marenghi's Dark Place... Mostly Matt Berry stuff.
I recently finished The Good Place and then Brooklyn 99 and Hulu auto played Super Store and I instantly fell in love. Then I thought I'd take a crack at Last Man On Earth, and after over three seasons... I hate it. I like Will Forte, but I can't stand the premise of every joke hinging on the fact that his character's only trait is being annoying.
So I even started some of the originals like Cheers (with absolutely zero intentions of following up with Frasier), MASH, and The Bob Newhart Show.
Here's the part where I might get crucified; I was not a big fan of Seinfeld during its original airing. Since then, I have not given Curb Your Enthusiasm as much of a shot past watching the first season.
Friends is not funny and I will die on this hill. And don't even talk to me about the current state of The Daily Show.
Maybe I should check out Fleabag? Finish Atlanta. Or maybe finish shows I sort of gave up on, like Silicone Valley? Or go way back and finish Louie? Or even Eastbound & Down?
Possibly give Pen 15 another chance? Or Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt?
