For context, I live in the UK and 18 (very soon to be 19). I'm in a kind of 'half in half out,' situation, where I'm out to my close friends and my sister, but no one else. I'm currently at home from uni, but when I got back, I planned on going to the gp to try and get myself on the NHS waiting list for a dysphoria diagnosis. I thought the waiting list would be long, like the autism one I'm on, but after seeing another post here I've realised it was far longer than the already long expectations I had.
This got me looking into private ways to transitions. The main company I looked into was GenderGP, who I've heard positive things about, but then I saw the prices. It's all so expensive, I did some maths and the very bare minimum of my first year would cost me just shy of £1000, and that's not even including any optional things like counselling, which would be super helpful as well. It gets cheaper in the next years, but it's still at least like £360 annually just to be registered with them, and idk if I can realistically get that money.
I'm still probably gonna get on the NHS waiting list when I get back to uni, just because I suppose it's better than nothing, but idk, seeing how long it can take and how much it can cost just makes transitioning feel like less of a realistic option which sucks because I was just getting confident in the fact it's what I wanted to do, and now idk how I'll be able to do it.
