Nest x Yale lock with a no-latch door
Post Body

Alright.. either I made a huge mistake, or just haven't figured out a clever workaround.

I have this large fancy door. The 'handle' is just a chrome pipe that runs vertical the entire height of the door. The latching mechanism is done by those ball latches, at the top and bottoms of the door. So there really isn't a true latch, just those magnetic ball latches.

The Nest x Yale deadbolt and keypad are installed on this giant slab of wood. All appeared to be working well, but you can probably start to imagine the issues...

First, unless the door catches those ball latches just right, it doesn't close ALL the way - and therefore, the deadbolt won't engage when activated remotely. Most of the time you need to actually push the door in a bit, and manually turn the deadbolt to lock.

Second, sometimes the door blows right open in strong wind. Overall, I'm regretting the latchless door - but it would work out really well if the Nest x Yale auto-locked, in conjunction with figuring out a more reliable configuration of the ball latch settings and deadbolt catch, so it can more reliably close all the way.

But does anyone have any other ideas for what to do here? Any other fancy latching ideas that would work nicely with the giant handle & Nest x Yale? I was thinking maybe self-closing hinges, but the clearance to the trim may not support that.
