Thinking about getting a Nest Thermostat or a Nest Learning Thermostat. I don't care about the price. The main feature I want is to be able to set the temperature remotely, other features are a bonus. What I really, really don't want is to have the thermostat think for itself. Also I like that the Learning Thermostat is compatible with a wider range of HVAC systems (I might replace mine soonish).
Supopsedly you can turn that last "feature" off for the Learning Thermostat, but I've heard several people say it still will make it's own changes to your program or setting sometimes. That would be a deal breaker.
So is that a real issue? Should I just go with the non-learning one?
I have a 3rd gen learning. It hasn't adjusted itself in the 3 years I've had it. I Also disabled literally everything, and never signed up for any discount programs. (My provider doesn't work though those programs any way. Very small company. Just had to send them a picture of my thermostat installed and got a $50 credit to my bill.)
Usually the issue is they forget to turn something off, or they sign a contract via their thermostat allowing their electricity/gas provider to control their thermostat.
The former is easy enough to end. Just go to settings.
The latter involves sending mail and hoping the acknowledge it, but I'm not 100%. Would need to reread the contract to confirm.
