Use a nest as a thermometer
Post Body

I have a 3rd gen Nest thermostat but we got a new Daikin fit installed as the old gas furnace gave up and home had no cooling previously. Now after the upgrade, the nest thermostat is kinda useless and I was wondering if anyone has trying to just use it as temperature display on a wall? It looks nice and would like to use it as a display unit only without connecting to my HVAC. Is it possible to connect the wiring to batteries or an adapter of some kind and just use it as a display piece?

You're looking for a 24vac transformer. https://a.co/d/0637noDI

Connect wires to one of the R and C. If you have the old wire still run you can connect this to the furnace end of the wire.

I believe they can be set-up without wires, but in the worst case scenario. You can jumper W to C so it thinks you have heat, and just leave it set to off.
