So, I bought my brother a pair of Hammershots for simple wars around the house. The BuzzBee Jaguar and Nerf Strongarm werent cutting it. Poor velocity limited their range to less than 10 feet, no moving targets without expert shot placement and/or luck. Lots of rounds ending up where someone was by the time they arrive. Very boring indeed.
A friend of mine had a pair of Hammershots, and I was very impressed by their power, and accuracy. I experienced it first hand when he unthinkingly (I hope) aimed directly for my face and shot me in my opened eye. I looked up and was shot, not even time for blinking. Suffered temporary blindness in the form of a perfect circle spot taking up most of the upper left quadrant of my vision for an hour or so. Very lucky it didnt hit my retina, my friend is terribly reckless with horseplay of any nature. Id say he doesnt know his strength but that doesnt work with lack of basic common sense like dont shoot for the exposed face. BUT I digress...
So having done some research into mod-ability and reviews I decided on the Hammershot. And man what a good choice. Even if our Strongarm could match the velocity, its not as good period. When my Hammershots arrived, they did happen to fire at high velocities, more than doubling the range of the old blasters. It came, though, with slight dart path deviation, perhaps a couple inches from center for every 20 feet. Not Bad.jpg: but the next day, they were shooing whole feet from center for every 10-15 feet. A dart even curved around a corner and I couldnt see where it actually hit. Cool, sure, but not what I was intending. Seemingly, the raw power of the gun is half the issue. Like firing too lightweight of bbs out of an airsoft gun with velocities above 200fps, for a good example: The projectiles dont have enough mass to withstand the aerodynamic effects of high velocity travel movement. The linear motion cannot be maintained and the bb will eventually fly off away from center in any of 360 degrees. And just like my example, the darts dont consistently fly off in the same direction, its totally random. They reach a certain average distance, and then they deviate considerably, effectively invalidating the convenience of having higher velocities. Id be better off with the Jaguar and Strong(ish)arm at this point.
I just dont understand what has changed since yesterday when they shot fine-er. Is the slight deviation I described normal? I consider that pretty damn accurate, myself. The darts may have been left in the guns overnight once but they still fire with the same intensity, they havent been squashed or, to my observation, effected cosmetically or otherwise in any way. However, the BuzzBee suction cup darts do not behave that way when fired from the going-Hammershot. I think this is due to the fact that their limited length, years of use and suction cup end significantly lower the velocity from which they exit the blaster. Thus, there is no excess of energy to dislodge them from a straight, but quickly descending, course. The extreme inaccuracy effect is also experienced with a single leftover blue whistler from either the StrongishArm or Jolt from years ago. It seems to have the same dimensions etc as the green zombie darts that came with the hammies. Which is, I assume, why they fly wonky as heck, too. Both guns behave this way now. Didnt say that yet, specifically. After just one night of owning them. Fired them each maybe 30-50 times so far.
Please help me figure this out. Have the darts already experienced enough use to have been contorted in some way, causing them to catch the air and fly in random directions? I think not. Has anyone else experienced this? Searched all over this sub for anything: nothing. Im at a loss here, one of you Nerf Gurus, please help a fellow blaster-er. Open for questions thanks for reading!
