I don’t understand why Shinji freaked out and raged against the angel. He was doing that thousand yard stare and then he just lost it. Then later he’s being snarky to Misato. He’s smug because he won the battle. Where’s that coming from? He went from dead eyed psychopathy to raging psychopathy like he was in a trance and now he’s arrogant about that? I’m not saying he shouldn’t be. I’m saying I just don’t get it. What happened exactly?

Why did Shinji and Misato stare at each other on the train tracks for so long? I haven’t been able to stop thinking about that. Everything I’ve seen so far in this show has been very deliberate. I don’t get the sense that any space is being wasted, yet there was a static image of two people staring at one another for what felt like an eternity. No music. No dialogue. Just the two of them and the noise of the cicadas. Am I overthinking it or can someone help me to understand?
