Question based on language?
Post Body

I recently started studying the Navajo language and I had a question and wasn’t sure where to go with it. Google wasn’t much help.

I’m very intrigued by and actually admire the specific words dictating maternal and paternal relations, but my question is- is this just practical or is there special cultural significance behind it?

Is there a particular reason why they must be distinguished or is it just less confusing? I find it less confusing to not have to say “oh my mom’s mom,”.
