While I would like this community to be a place for people with mutual interests to find each other and meet up, I also want to dedicate a significant portion to allowing the discussion and sharing of materials related to the Japanese sex industry.

As many are probably aware, prostitution is usually considered a grey area in Japan. However it is perfectly legal under the allowed circumstances. Usually this means going to a ‘health’ store. There is a lot of jargon surrounding the industry so I would like to help prospective users by elucidating some of the terms.

  • Health store (ヘルス): refers to an incall brothel. Usually they accept walk-ins.

  • Delivery Health (デリヘル): refers to a company for outcall prostitutes. Usually has to be reserved 1-1.5hrs in advance.

  • Soapland (ソープランド/ソープ): refers to an incall brothel that specialises in bathing and massage, which is usually more expensive.

  • Manzoku (まんぞく/満足): means service and is often used as a euphemism for sexual services. But don’t be surprised to hear it in a non-sexual context, as it’s especially popular in the tourism industry.

  • Shimeiryō (しめいりょう/指名料): Meaning Nomination fee, very common and almost inherent. Usually ¥1000-3000 (US$6.73-20.18). Only applies if you choose a person.

-Yoyakushimeiryō (よやくしめいりょう/予約指名料): Meaning reservation nomination fee. Same as the previous but, for when you call and reserve in advance. Usually the same price but can vary.

  • Nyūkaikin (にゅうかいきん/入会金): Meaning entry free. Pretty rare unless you go to a ‘luxury’ health store. Usually ~¥1500 (US$10.09).

  • Enchō (えんちょう/延長): Meaning extension, refers to when you go overtime for what you paid. The Yen per minute can vary wildly, and it can get high, especially for outcalls.

  • Deribariiryō (デリバリー料): Meaning Delivery fee. For outcalls. Changes based on distance from the store. Usually ~¥2500 (US$16.82).

I will create a similar list for the in-service jargon later.
