Starting seeds in the garage

I have some trays of seeds in my garage that Iām starting. Butterfly milkweed and swamp milkweed.
Iām planning to leave them in the garage for cold stratification and then replant when they are ready.
Couple questions - do these need light during the cold stratification period? At what point should I put them under grow lights?
- likewise do these need watered regularly or early in the cold stratification process?
If anyone else has attempted something like this Iām eager to learn more about what works
