So, for those that don't know, Gorgone and Silvery Checkerspot butterflies are native to North America. Host plants for their caterpillars include Helianthus sp. (Sunflowers), Rudbeckia sp. (Black-Eyed Susan), and some other asters.
What is particularly upsetting to me is I have SEVERAL 9ft tall sunflowers in my yard and they are barely touched. But I take a look at my cutie patootie Teddy Bear sunflowers and they no leaves. Rudbeckia patch looks like a plague of locusts rolled through. The mammoth sunflowers I planted in May are still only 1-2 ft tall because they continually get decimated by checkerspot caterpillars.
I love those butterflies but holy shit could they just EAT THE BIG PLANTS AND LET THE LITTLE ONES GROW?? FOR ONCE?
Anyway, rant over.
