My husband and I will be doing a small roadtrip to see the redwoods July 26 through August 2.
We're starting out at Red Bluff, CA to pick up our rental car and driving about 170 miles from there to the Avenue of the Giants. We'll camp there that night. I would guess we'd be there and done setting up camp around 2pm. Do you recommend spending more than a day checking out the hikes and sites along the Avenue of the giants or should we just do 1 day and head north?
I know we want to go up to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park from there and do the Fern Canyon hike. How many days to you recommend for this area and do you have any recommendations for other things to see in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park or anything along the way from Hombolt?
Next on the agenda is Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. So far the hikes I've tentatively got added to our list for that park are Boy Scout Tree Trailhead, Stout Grove Trailhead, and checking out Crescent Beach Overlook. Any other recommendations?
Does it make sense to spend 2 days in each park and then trying to fit in Lassen Volcanic National Park for the last day? It's only 60 miles from where we will be dropping the car off.
We have a good amount of flexibility and I'm definitely open to any feedback or recommendations. Thank you so much.
