Post Body

Narcolepsy runs in my family, both my sister and my grandmother have (grandmother had) it. I've had sleep studies before, and I don't experience these symptoms every night... but they do occur multiple times a week. This was not detected during the sleep studies, but I believe that I am experiencing hypnic jerks - I fall asleep, and a few minutes later am abruptly jolted awake by (usually) some sort of nightmare I just had. When I go to sleep, I often dream immediately.. because sometimes I will be maybe like 3/4 asleep, I'll be in a completely different place like feel like I'm in a dream but come out of it gently like it was just a vivid thought with in a few minutes as well. Both of these things will happen multiple times while trying to fall asleep. I also experience sleep paralysis quite often, as well as hallucinations both could be separate but typically occur together and these will also often happen multiple times a night. However, when I'm going to sleep and when I go to sleep the easiest I could say... is when I drift in and out of that gentle dream like state until I am completely asleep I guess. Sometimes I come out of it really alert though and I just stay awake and can't go back... but I try to bring my thoughts back to that dream so I can fall asleep. Not sure if this is normal honestly, but I do know the only person in my life who has experienced all of these things is my sister with narcolepsy. Now, I am on adderall.. not because I ever had problems staying awake, I've always just had problems focusing. I would fall asleep in school SOMETIMES, but not very often. It really just happened the most when I was being abused by a parent as an underclassmen in high school i don't recall it happening more than a few times since (which was probably because i didn't get much sleep the night before, so this isn't concerning to me) Anyway, I hope this all makes sense I've been struggling a lot and don't know where to turn especially because on the nights I had the sleep studies these things just didn't happen. To be fair, I was probably 16 the last time I had a sleep study and while this was occurring then... well, I'm 24 now. I don't know that it happens more frequently, I've just been living with it. Sorry if this is the wrong place to go, but all of my google searches and talks with my sister suggest narcolepsy but I literally don't have a problem staying awake during the day, like I said I am on adderall but that is because of add. (which I was never actually diagnosed with formally, but I do have all the symptoms likely because of my depression/anxiety/trauma and adderall is the only way I'm able to get things done... though, I've had these problems throughout childhood but it began when I was getting abused more lol).
