I visited my GP a few months ago because I was scared I was slipping into psychosis. I was seeing and hearing things that I knew weren't actually there. I was losing chunks of time and always felt exhausted. GP was concerned I had a neurological disorder and referred me to the hospital. After a consultation where I discussed symptoms, I was booked in for an MRI in weeks to come. (Those things are LOUD. And why did the operator insist on talking to me when I had earplugs and headphones on?? I couldn't hear a thing). Nothing malicious found, I was booked in for a follow up appointment regarding narcolepsy which I had today at the Wessex Neurological Centre, Southampton. The stars aligned and I ended up having a sleep attack during my consultation. I was yawning non stop, double vision, could hardly keep my eyes open, slurring words, having to get her to repeat what she was saying. "Oh, bless you" "You look knackered" - uh yea. She tells me it's either narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia and that it's one of the worst cases she's seen recently (Idk how you'd even judge that). She says she'll contact the right people for the sleep study as it's an "urgent case". No more than 2 hours later I have a call booking in the collection of the device I have to wear for 2 weeks and sleep study all booked in for the 6th of February. Just wanted to share my journey thus far 😊
