Nine of them managed to escape, but according to the owner of the passenger bus, people alleging to be cartel members are demanding USD 1,500 per person. The migrants boarded the bus bound for Monterrey, Nuevo León in Tapachula, Chiapas, on Monday, according to the San Luis Potosi Attorney General’s Office (FGE-SLP). At around 02:00, the bus disappeared at kilometer 73 of the Matehuala-Saltillo highway, between the San Luis Potosi municipalities of El Huizache and Matehuala. Half an hour later, the bus was found empty in Los Medina, Nuevo León. Around 04:30 that morning, Perfecto Vázquez García, the owner of the Hevatours bus line, which operated the commercial bus, an individual alleging to be a member of the CDG, called him demanding a ransom of USD 1,500 per person, amounting to USD 75,000, for their return. Vazquez García reportedly told them that he did not have that amount of money. According to him, the kidnappers have stopped communicating. The Secretary of Public Security of Nuevo León, Gerardo Palacios, reported that authorities located six men who were passengers on the bus in the municipality of Doctor Arroyo in Nuevo Leon. Minutes later, three more were found nearby. They reportedly told authorities that 16 kidnap victims are being held in a safe home in Nuevo Leon. Those rescued were between the ages of 18 to 35 and are natives of Venezuela and Honduras. During his morning press conference, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) stated that the situation is “being dealt with” and that the National Guard has been deployed to the state. There is no further information on their whereabouts.
