NXH gaslighting our daughter

Post Body

Daughter asked NXH for some help over text message/phone call this morning. He yelled at her that he was busy, tired, and she needed to leave him alone. She broke down sobbing. We were in a public place and I had several people ask me if she was okay (after I sent her to go get some water to drink). I didn’t defend or condemn him, just acknowledged her feelings and helped her brainstorm some other solutions.

Later she was showing me a pic he had sent and I saw he had texted her “I’m sorry if you were upset by what I said”. This pisses me off to NO FUCKING END. There is no “if” in an apology. “I’m sorry for what I said. I understand it upset you.” That is how an apology should sound.

He also said, “You asked for something and I said no, and it’s okay that I said that.” Yes, it is okay for you not to drop everything and help your kid, but it is NOT okay to scream at her! If the roles were reversed and our daughter screamed at him, she would certainly be punished.

This makes me physically sick. He is one page one of the Narcissist Bible: I didn’t do anything and if I did, it was your fault. I’m so frustrated I could scream. I am a grown adult and I have skills and resources to deal with this BS. She is a child. She was still upset about it hours later. I talked through it the best I could without being negative about her father, and I sent a quick email to her therapist. Thanks for letting me vent.
