Do close to delving into Nanoleaf, but...

In order to be able to use the app, I am required to be hooked up to a 2.4G WiFi? How come it doesn't work with a 4G one? Is that in the works? And what is the best channel to be updated to new Nanoleaf projects and such?
I really love the product and what people have done with it, but I would like to fully utilize the product and its potential if I were to invest in it.
Sorry if these questions have been answered before a million times, but I would like an up do date answer.
