I’m a nanny/house manager for 3 kids; 4M, 7M, and 10F. We’ve had significant issues over the years (4 total) but it’s a great paying job and 4M is my best friend. My bosses just aren’t present enough for the kids to get their needs met so the 2 big kids are highly reactive. 10F has started taking all her anger out on me. Until she turned 10, we were friends! I understand how hard it is to be a tween (I’ve nannied tweens before!) but 10F just rejects me. She insults me every day (today she called me a disgusting rat and gagged the entire time she was in my car because “it’s stinky like nanny”) and has decided I’m not her nanny anymore which her parents entertain though I am partially responsible for her (though mostly not anymore). I am not allowed to discipline her because I’m “not her nanny.” I feel so discouraged every day and I hate going into work. I love seeing the boys and especially 4M but I’m getting burnt out. MB has told me she wants to just ignore 10F when she’s treating me like that.
If I leave, I would have a very hard time financially, so I’m thinking of sticking out the summer. But the impact on my mental health is hard to ignore. What would you do?
