Post Body

I'm switching jobs and I'm torn between two! Opinions?

--- Family A --- $20/hour, ~45 hours/week. Light child related housekeeping (kids laundry, toy pickup, etc)

Nearly 2 month old sweet well behaved 5 year old (who will be in school most days and won't need care). Parents are kind, MB often gives small gifts and provides snacks or shares lunch when the housekeeper/cook is in. Several opportunities for travel with the family. Super clean and organized house. Fairly strict about baby's schedule, MB wants to sleep train early.

Pros - * more hours = more money. The extra money per week would be the perfect amount to cover health insurance under my partners plan.

  • "Easy" days with one baby

  • Garage to store my ebike during the day

Cons -

  • the previously mentioned hours ๐Ÿ˜…. 45 is a lot for me, I'm autistic and tend to burn out easily. I've done it before with tougher work (a newborn and a newly 2 year old), but it was a lot to manage along with keeping up with duties at home.

  • MB likes a lot of help (they previously had a live in nanny), I worry she may ask for more hours or time on weekends?

---Family B--- $22/hour, 32-36 hours/week. Only clean up after kids/self. 2 weeks paid vacation, all federal holidays paid, unlimited sick days ("within reason")

4.5 month old for most of the day (9-3), energetic 2.5 year old from 3-5/6. Would only be caring for one child at a time. Parents are easy to talk to, down to earth. The gentle parenting type. Clean house but a little more relaxed. Friendly dog that requires no care.

Pros - * parents have stressed that they really value communication and respect, want to provide a happy and stable place to work. Talked about how they gave their last nanny 2 weeks off paid when she got covid.

  • less hours = better work life balance. MB mentioned having easy access to backup care if needed.

  • The benefits

Cons -

  • less money

  • 2.5 year old seems a bit hard to manage - high energy, often says no to instructions/requests, wiped his boogers on me and laughed ๐Ÿคจ (took a few corrections for him to stop). However I've only spent 2 hours with him, and I've reformed kids before. A challenge but not quite a deal breaker.
