I was just thinking about the time I was a nanny/house manager for a family and they'd had a huge birthday party over the weekend (which I worked) with so many sweets and treats that normally weren't allowed in the house because the youngest had severe allergies to gluten. Like, he'd go anaphylactic. So when the party was over, MB moved all the leftovers to a room in the basement.
When I came in on Monday, she said to me "we need to get rid of and throw out everything leftover to remove any possibility that youngest can get to it." So I'm like, cool.
Fast forward to later after I'd completed an errand and it was time to do the kitchen. There was a huge spread of brownies from the fancy bakery down the street in the exact area on the counter where MB always put food she wanted thrown out. I was also surprised it was out like that because of the allergic kiddo. But whatever. I assumed (and shouldn't have) they were leftovers from the party and dumped them all down the disposal.
A bit later, she came into the kitchen and was like "where are the brownies?" I said "I got rid of them like you wanted."
The look of shock on her face. She said "did i ask you to get rid of the brownies?" I said "you said you wanted all the leftover sweets from the party to be disposed of so youngest child couldn't get into them and they were on the counter where you put stuff to be disposed of."
It was then she told me she had just bought those for a school party the next day and now the bakery was closed. I felt so bad. I offered to come in early and pick up (and pay) for more in the morning but she declined and said "I'll figure something out. Thank you for apologizing." 😳
