NF not being supportive and it’s hurtful
Post Body

I was offered a four week paid internship in my field (Early Childhood). I had applied in June but didn’t hear anything so I assumed I didn’t get it. Just got word Wednesday that orientation is next week. It’s a huge opportunity for me.

MB (my actual boss) was out of town Wednesday and yesterday. I finally had a chance to tell her today. Her initial reaction wasn’t what I had hoped for. I had hoped she would be supportive and say “That’s great! How exciting,” or something. Instead her first question was “You’ll still be free in the evenings, right?”

Uhhh...it’s 8 hour days with a 45 minute drive each way. I do t think I’m going to have any energy for a second shift.

I apologized for the short notice, but again, i told them as soon as I could. DB is off for the summer and the kids have assorted camps (including sleep away camp for the oldest) to keep them out of the house for 3-4 hours (or more!). They don’t really need me.

I’m trying not to let their attitude impact my excitement for this opportunity. I will be getting paid (more than I’d make for the time with them) and I don’t have to clean litter boxes, do laundry, or chauffeur kids around. It’s a stepping stone to the career I really want.
