Hi,
I am a full time nanny for a toddler and we've been reading Mercy Watson books. I'm 22 so I don't know shit about kids books. I literally made a reddit account just to post this because I brought it up to my boyfriend and he didn't think it was weird. I NEED TO KNOW IF IM CRAZY OR IF OTHER PPL THINK THIS and idk how to use reddit very well lol
ok. so. does anyone else think there's some weird kinda adult joke in this series?? Like baby Lincoln and Eugenia Lincoln with a grumpy cat literally named general Washington??? am I missing some kinda historical joke here? the characters are sisters and live together but they're both elderly and legit have long faces like Lincoln. why the fuck is a character named BABY I don't get it
In Mercy Watson takes a ride or goes for a drive or whatever the fuck its Called there's this random ass line basically being like "Mr. Watson did not look back, he was a forward thinking man." that literally was so off and random with the rest of the page when I first read it I was like what? if u have this book please just reread this page
The fireman Lorenzo is such a guido (new jersey type guy) stereotype it actually had me laughing when I first saw it.
and the one with the thief where its like "the Watsons were being robbed" I was like this is kinda weird for reading to a 3 year old
And the mom and dad in the story are so dumb and I feel like the pig represents an adopted child or something I literally don't even know but THERES SOMETHING OFF HERE
like its like weird adult jokes or something in here PLEASE REPLY AND TELL ME IF U AGREE cuz I don't get why this book series is so popular its like someone wrote a mad lib with random ass words and turned it into a book
also comment other kids books you've noticed are weirdly off or have adult jokes
adding this- oh my god and not to fucking mention the PIG that they treat like their child is named MERCY which I immediately thought was a reference to like saving it from a slaughter house but I guess that ones pretty fucking clear
I just thought of another one- in the book where Eugenia is talking to the police man she goes "Pig!" and the policeman says "Excuse me?" LMAO
