Post Body

I posted previously about getting burned out with NF. One of my problems is I don’t get notified about NF’s schedule. Last week MB told me Tuesday I would be off Thursday (she called it a “bonus day off”). This Monday she told me they were going out of town for the holiday starting Thursday. Three unexpected days off in two weeks. And no, I don’t have guaranteed hours (I know, I know).

Most of the time I watch their dog (for a small fee). Lately, they just take it for granted that I will do it. Last time, they literally said “Oh aren’t you taking the dog?” As I was waking out the door.

Today, DB mentioned they have to take the hamster with them (I think he was fishing to see if I would offer to take it). I casually asked “What’s the plan for the dog?” He looked panicked and said “Uh, I thought you were taking her.” I said “Oh, sorry. You didn’t mention needing me. I made plans this weekend.”

Cue much panic. The dog can’t be boarded and they didn’t ask the family they are staying with. F9 has a major meltdown because she hates taking the dog in the car. DB asked me again if I could watch the dog.

“I’m sorry, I have plans.”

I don’t think I’ve ever stood up for myself before. It feels weird but good.

EDIT: F9 called me a dog killer for 20 minutes. When I explained her parents had not asked me, she called THEM dog killers. 🙄
