Saw a post on Craigslist and it legit made me laugh out loud at the upfront offered rate, for what is being asked for.
"Starts at $12.50/hr (rates and perks are negotiable)
Seeking a nanny to "audition" this Thursday (June 13)
I live in CITY, and my ex lives is in 20MILESSOUTH. My license is suspended, and she does not drive.
I usually have my 33-month-old son Thursdays through Sundays. I am seeking a reliable driver who can pick him up from daycare, ideally between 1 and 2 p.m. (after his nap but before traffic gets bad on BADMAJORINTERSTATEFREEWAY).
I currently work from home, but am going to be at an office starting in July. I want to work out an arrangement for Thursday pickups with a nanny who can watch him until I get home Thursday, then on Fridays while I am at work.
All care will take place at my apartment. Snacks and meals will be provided.
My son is a healthy, happy little guy with no major health or behavior concerns. There are plenty of learning tools and toys at my apartment to help with his reading and writing, and I live near LOCAL Creek so regular walks will be part of his care.
SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY. Please be ready to pass a background check and provide at least two references that can speak to your childcare experience. CPR, First Aid or other certification is preferred but not required."
So.. you think that for $12.50 an hour, a nanny will go to your ex's general location, pick your child up, transport them about 20 miles north on SEVERAL major freeways, AND you want me to teach a not-even-3 year old how to read/write??
Again, I charge $20 an hour for basically this. There is no WAY in hell this person is going to get a reputable nanny to do this job, for less than $15 an hour, with mileage and gas reimbursed.
Additionally it sounds like they expect the nanny to just hang out at their apartment all day with the kid. And why are they referring to their 2.5 year old child as 33 months? Please. Please tell me this ad is a joke. Anyone? Even with 'perks and rates negotiable' I'm sure by that they mean 'I'll pay you $13 an hour and pay you $10 in gas for this' .. Like..
I get that it sucks not to drive, or have a suspended license, etc. But like.. let's be realistic here. You need family to help you out with this, not a nanny.. This is a nightmare waiting to happen. This isn't something I'd want a nanny doing with my children. An outing to the zoo or local children's museum or even the big museum? Sure. But driving on congested major freeways at really awkward times, on a Thursday? .. Yikes.
