I’m wondering if anyone out there has experience working with a family whose political leanings and religious beliefs are different than your own.
I’m interviewing with a family currently who is opposite to me in these two areas. At the same time the mom shows she is flexible, open minded in certain ways, a good communicator. I get the sense that she’s even open to learning from me and my skills with kiddos. i think I’d enjoy working with her.
I don’t agree with her in that she’s has her 4 y/o testing for intelligence for schools, and it seems in general a push for academic performance. I’m more Montessori minded and not into homework etc. otherwise it’s the fact that she will yell at them and has said that at times she’s spanked them before. That’s really not how I handle things, so I see the difference here but I also know that we are not ever going to be 100 percent on the same page as someone and as long as we can respect and learn from each other, and there is no abuse or general abusive behaviour, (ie ongoing Spanking or verbal abuse) then I’d be comfortable. I am considering asking for a month trial period to get a feel.
Any thoughts appreciated
Echoing u/DynaRyan25, I would not work for an employer who physically abuses their children. Personally even without the abuse I wouldn’t work for a republican family in the current climate. I believe in raising children to love and accept everyone including themselves and it would be too challenging to ignore my values at work.
