Was it inappropriate of me to ask DB to pay for an Uber?

My nf is going on vacation and it happens to be in the same area where I’m visiting family for the holidays. Originally, DB asked if I was available to sit for them and offered to fly me down there with travel time expenses, etc. I told him no need since I already booked my tickets. It worked out great as it would just be a regular ten hour shift.

It got messy though because my dad has Covid so I have to stay with other relatives and they can drive me there but can’t drive me back. The area where we’re at, Ubers are expensive and money is a little tight rn because of the holidays and I can’t afford to pay forty dollars for transportation. I sent a text asking DB if he could cover an Uber trip back since I already have a ride there but he hasn’t responded. Was this asking for too much or should it be no problem since he didn’t have to lay any other travel expenses for me?
