insane person in my fb nanny group. Someone posted wondering what the rate for a babysitter in our area is as she needs childcare m-f 9-5 for a 1yr old and 3 yr old when he isnt in daycare plus light housekeeping and she asked if $15 to 20 an hour is okay. Mind you the minimum wage in our state is 14.13 and she needs a nanny not a sitter. Thankfully majority of the group isn't completely off their rocker and all commented saying between 25-30 is average. And one deranged commenter said this
The amount that people pay is insane. I would never expect to be paid 25$ an hour to watch a child and too clean. As someone who has babysat and who has kids I would pay 18$ an hour at most. 1 year olds are so easy lol I have 3 kids. I would die if someone told me 25$ an hour per kid.And to think people can pay $25 an hour, when the national salary in nj is about 70k.
To which I replied if someone is paid 18 an hour for this job that's 37k annually before taxes. Do people not deserve to make a livable wage? Being a nanny is a profession and they deserve to be paid their worth. Taking care of two kids and cleaning is alot of work. And nj is an expensive area. Minimum wage is 14.13 an hour. So someone should make barely over Minimum wage? Sad to see people be so out of touch with reality. This is a full time job people deserve to make a livable wage.
To which she replied
not out of touch. Just fortunately never needed to pay anyone $25 min to watch my children. God has always put someone in my path thatβs at home not doing anything and take care of my kids, and I can pay them a per day rate. Also they end up loving my kids and becoming family.
If I were to watch kids I truly would not expect a parent to pay me min $25 an hour. I personally would not.
So if anyone ever needs a baby sitter for a date night, feel free to contact me for a fair price in a home full of love!
Like it doesn't matter what you would do. People need to be able to put food on their tables π
