I was just outside and our neighbors were playing a song that I really liked, but since they choose not to get along with me, I couldn't exactly ask them who the artist was.
It sounded to me like a song that could have been released anytime in the past ten years or so; the neighbors do have a good mix of tunes, but I have a hunch that this song is one of the more recent ones. It's a male vocalist and it has a kind of indie-pop groove, in a major key with lyrics that sounded insightful—it's maybe a college radio station kind of tune.
I remember a couple lyrics as mentioned in the title: "This is your year," and then later, the phrase "people don't always say what they mean" which is probably part of the bridge or chorus, or may have to do with the title, because it was repeated at several different points in the song.
I tried looking these lyrics up on genius.com, and it seems whenever I'm searching for indie-pop lyrics, it kicks out an unbelievable volume of hip-hop search results which have nothing to do with my song. If I'm searching for hip-hop lyrics, I can be certain that the Carpenters and Chumbawumba will appear several times near the top. So, if Genius does have my song somewhere, it's buried among other stuff.
If anybody can help from this fairly vague description, I would surely appreciate it! Thanks.
