My children were named after Harry Potter charters. The fandom itself isn’t problematic, per se, but I can’t shake how hateful the author is. Everything feels tainted. Her TERF and rhetoric and stances (Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminism, aka cissexism/transphobia). I loved the books and movies growing up, and the names did have thoughtful meanings— when picked them for the kids.
Y’all may be wondering why I’m asking this now, when J.K. Rowling began spewing her bullshit years ago; the truth is, I IMMEDIATELY wanted to change my kids’ names, but I didn’t think legal name changes were feasible. The more people are talking about Name Regret though, the more it makes sense?
Luna, there is obviously a great actual meaning of the name, which many people even seem to know— and it’s become so popular, no one would really think twice, or maybe few would make the Harry Potter association, or really, assumption (though she’s a little older than the primary age group with the name). Technically, no one would know she’s named after Luna Lovegood… but her sibs don’t help… (and, ultimately, wife and I know).
Her twin sister is Minerva
Their older siblings are Ginny (16) and Sirius (21). I guess Ginny can slide, in no one knowing (thought, again, wife and I know, but definitely not the latter.
