I'm curious what types of reactions you have seen when out hiking in remote places that aren't officially clothing optional.
This past weekend I went backpacking in Joshua Tree. On the way out, I had shorts on and waited until I was a couple miles from the entrance and a ways off the trail to fully disrobe. But while at my campsite, some other backpackers happened to walk nearby and see me, and they just waved and greeted me kindly and moved on to find their own camping spot. I was glad that it went well.
This morning, I got up at sunrise to start heading back. I didn't put my shorts back on, thinking I'd wait until I found the main trail again. I eventually got there, but with the slope I could see most it was empty for a while, so I stayed naked a little longer. Since it was so early, I didn't think many people would be out. After some time a trail runner came up behind me from further in the park. He said "Now that's how to greet the sunrise!" and chatted with me for a bit, again not seeming to react to my nudity. That emboldened me to keep walking to the trail head nude. I ended up encoutering 4 more people on the trail, all who didn't seem to bat an eye at my nudity, and managed to get all the way to my car before putting my shorts back on.
Was I just really lucky today? Or is this normal?
