Is it wrong for me as a man to tell a lady she had nice nails?

Post Body
I told a cashier today that she had really nice nails but she got kinda shy after that and was kinda hiding them after that. I wasn't trying to be rude I really did like them should I not complement ladies on there nails I just don't want to make people feel uncomfortable.
Edit: they were a beautiful shade of red and shaped perfectly. I still can't tell if they were press ons, acrylic, or naturally long.
