After 27 years, you believe you have seen enough…
Moments ago, I was waiting for a burger in SOHO, and I saw a young person sitting and waiting for a burger. Our conversation was healthy, I asked her - what brought her here at a lonely table in SOHO from Staten Island and she defended her presence by saying, “waiting for an Uber”.
My motive was never to ask her out, but she seemed disturbed. Our later conversation unfolded how she was unable to open herself to her friends, and how it somehow translated to her being sitting by herself waiting for a burger on a Saturday night. It hit me quite hard. Her name was Natalie.
Right after that I opened up to my friend about my insecurities on my drive back home, and boy I felt good. It’s all about the person who listens to you on the other end. “Usually”, they would get your problems.
I totally get the uncompromising and uncomfortable feeling that arises whenever you wanna share something, but I wanna say - I get you, and I totally trust your experiences.
Sometimes that is enough, don’t you think? It’s better to share with someone who is willing to listen to you, rather than waiting for an Uber alone with a burger?
