EDIT: no longer looking for a roommate; my company is on a relocation freeze and everything is very TBD so I'd rather not make those commitments unless you're in the same situation as me. Hope everyone is staying sane.
Hey ya'll, I'm a 24 y.o. software eng that's looking to relocate (back) to NYC for work related reasons. I lived in Manhattan for about 5 years, and I left for a glorious 1/2 year to Seattle before my team disbanded. So after COVID19 abates, I'm coming back to hell the city of dreams.
The space I'm hoping to find:
- Within 40 min commute to Chelsea Market. (Preferably not too far from 1/2/3, A/C/E, L, PATH trains)
- I'm partial to living in Jersey City.
- I care a lot about having natural light and a good layout.
- Strong preference for 2 bed 2 bath. I like having my own bathroom a lot, but it's not a must.
- I want to keep it under $2000 if possible.
- I'm moving after COVID abates or in mid to late June, whichever is later. The timeline is honestly unclear, but I'm happy to make it work.
Biggest deal-breakers of me as a roommate:
- I own a cat and am not willing to part with him. He sheds a lot, I'm a girl with long hair so I shed a lot, so I end up vacuuming and lint rolling quite a bit.
- I'm willing to keep the litterbox and such in my room, and I'm disciplined about feeding and cleaning up after him. I'll also obviously pay any pet related fees, as well as damages that may incur (but I don't forsee this happening because he's never had a potty accident and he doesn't scratch much).
- He's not too loud for the most part, but is anxious around strangers and doesn't get along with other animals. :( He also sometimes regurgitates after eating (like maybe twice a month or so), but I'll drop everything to clean it up!!! If you have any expensive rugs, please use them in your room or something instead. :(
- I can't stand having dishes in the sink for more than a day. I will ask you to clean it, and if that fails consistently, I tend to passive aggressively refuse to wash your dishes, even if I'm doing my own dishes.
Me & my living habits:
- Verbose.
- 24 y.o. female. Chinese-American.
- I don't smoke or do any drugs harder than weed. I do enjoy drinking, though, and intend on keeping liquor at home. Probably not the best roommate for any recovering alcoholics out there.
- I've been one of those roommates who are either out or holed up in my room. So, I can be as low interaction/presence as you'd like. Ideally, I'd like to become friends with my roommate, but I don't have expectations of it. Mostly, I want to co-exist peacefully.
- I've never had any bad conflicts with past roommates. I'm an upfront person and would appreciate you being upfront with your complaints as well.
- I don't think I'll cook much, nor am I good at it, but I'm trying to cook more on the weekends and would love to cook with you.
- I don't bring people over much. I might have friends over on the weekends to cook or watch TV together, but we're pretty wholesome people. Currently single and too lazy to mingle, and not into the hook-up scene, so I'm unlikely to bring strangers over in that regard as well.
- I'm not super neat, but I'm also not a slob. My living space definitely looks lived in.
- My hobbies include video games, making food with friends, and reading on the couch. I'm down to trying most things once, so I'm down to gym with you or whatever, if we end up getting along super well.
You:
- Demonstrably financially stable and responsible enough for the unit chosen.
- I'm not a fan of living with smokers.
- I'd prefer not to live with couples, but that really depends on your personalities. I just don't want to feel like a 3rd wheel in my own home, or deal with the fall-out of a potential break-up.
- Preferably near my age to make co-living as equals easier.
- I don't care about gender/sexual orientation/race. I will say that I lean liberal, and if you're someone who unironically uses the term "snowflake", or think that Asian and white men have a harder time getting tech jobs, it'd be better for us to not live together. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This has been a rather long post, but I feel like I'm a fairly specific person in what I'm looking for and why you might not want to live with me. If you think we'd be a good match, drop me a message! Or if you want a friend in NYC who sends an abundance of cat pictures, let me know LOL.
