I am an 82 year old woman who lived in a rent controlled apartment in the West Village for 50 years. I foolishly gave up that apartment during the heighth of Covid and fled to Florida...where I am miserably unhappy and longing to return to NY. I live on Social Security and a healthy pension, have zero debt, healthy savings and a credit score of 827. I want to find a rent stabilized apartment for myself but am wondering if my age is going to present a problem. Not that it would be honestly admitted as such, of course. I can not seek help from senior citizen organizations because at this point I am not a NYC resident. Any thoughts or suggestions or experiences of other Golden Agers who have apartment hunted in the city? All efforts to help get me outta Florida would be so greatly appreciated.
Leaving that apartment!!! Brutal. You'll never find anything near that. If you can afford 5-7k a month then, welcome back to NYC.
