Does anyone know about this law that was passed in April? Apparently a lot of landlords are hoping tenants don’t know about it so that they can sign a lease paying too much of an increase.
The law states that a rent increase can be no more than 5% plus the percentage of inflation.
Does anyone know what span of time the inflation covers? For instance I know what the percentage of inflation was in May 2024 totaling (8.82%). But my renewal was in September. How do I find that info? Would it be the same?
Also, if it is the same, it appears my landlord raised my rent by too much. Not THAT much more than what is legal, but still—it’s the principle that he would not budge on negotiating and then did something illegal. What could I do about it?
Thanks in advance.
